Last week a Hacker Competition Tianfu Cup was held in Chengdu, China. It is the largest and most prestigious competition in China. Tianfu Cup is very similar to Pwn2Own, one can call it the Chinese version of Pwn2Own.
It came into existence in the year 2018 when the Chinese government banned local cybersecurity researchers from participating in the hacker competitions organized on foreign lands.
A total of 15 teams took part in the competition, each team was given three attempts and five minutes each to hack a target using original exploits. Teams were able to compromise the following
- iOS 14 (running on iPhone 11 Pro)
- Samsung Galaxy S20
- Windows 10 2004 (April 2020)
- Adobe PDF Reader
- Docker (Community Edition)
- VMWare ESXi (hypervisor)
- QEMU (emulator and virtualizer)
- firmware for TP-Link and ASUS routers
